Zakharova: Abandoning Russian oil is collective suicide for European countries

Moscow (ST): Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the European Union’s ban on Russian oil as part of the sixth package of sanctions under US pressure would be suicidal for its countries.

Russia Today website quoted Zakharova as saying in a statement today: “This would constitute a real suicide for the European Union. They must be aware of this. These are suicidal tendencies and tend to be carried out by people who do not think, despite the presence of experts in the European Union who are well aware that this is a collective suicide.”

European sources had announced that the European Union intends to impose a sixth package of sanctions on Russia, including an embargo on Russian oil, which many EU countries oppose because there are no available alternatives.
