Young Syrian Researcher Wins Prize at 44th FEBS Congress

KRAKOW, Poland, (ST)- Syrian researcher Abdullah Hilal has got one of awards of the 44th FEBS (The Federation of European Biochemical Societies) Congress being held between July 6 and 11, 2019 in Poland.

The young Syrian got the award for a research published in the congress’s scientific journal.

Commenting on this achievement, Hilal, a student of biochemistry Department at the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, told SANA that he took part in the congress through two research works. The first is on how to prevent the spread of prostate cancer cells while the second, which has got the prize, is on “signs of the death of sperm and polyamines in human semen”.

 According to Hilal, he reached the research results through cooperation with four universities: the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, the Russian University, Astrakhan State Medical University, Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University and the International University for Science and Technology in Syria.

Hilal made it clear that his participation in the congress and winning a prize reaffirms the Syrians’ innovations in all fields and their ability to cope with research and scientific development despite the siege imposed on their country.

He reiterated the need to support scientific research and researchers in Syria and to focus on increasing Syrian youths’ participation in scientific conferences and scientific publications as to upgrade the international ranking of the Syrian universities.

“I am proud to represent my country abroad. Syria deserves to be present in all international gatherings and conferences because it has, over ages, got creative and innovative human capacities and potentials,” Hilal said.

The Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS) is an international scientific society promoting activities in biochemistry, molecular biology and related research areas in Europe and neighboring regions. It was founded in 1964 and it includes over 35,000 members.
