(You can… you deserve), a campaign to promote women’s participation in local council elections

Damascus (ST): Under the slogan “You Can… You Deserve”, the Syrian Commission for Family and Population Affairs, in cooperation with the Syria Youth Imprint Foundation, launched a national campaign to promote women’s participation in the 2022 local council elections, in partnership with a group of concerned ministries in all governorates.

The authority stated on its Facebook page that the goal of the campaign is to enhance women’s access to membership in local councils, interact with the reality of citizens’ lives, meet their needs and understand the requirements for development, noting that the campaign will include a number of events in which representatives from government institutions, non-governmental organizations, local councils, and activists in issues of woman.

In its statement, the commission said: “The campaign seeks to enhance the capabilities of future women to run for local council elections in order to gain the confidence of voters and overcome the restrictions imposed by the cultural and social dimensions of work.
