Beijing (ST): The 14th National People’s Congress unanimously elected Xi Jinping as President of the People’s Republic of China and Chairman of the country’s Central Military Commission.
Xinhua reported that Xi pledged, in a speech delivered at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing after his election at the ongoing annual legislative session of the National Assembly, to be loyal to the Chinese constitution.
The congress also elected Han Zheng as vice president and Zhao Leji as chairman of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People’s Congress.
The agency indicated that a total of 14 people were elected as vice-chairmen of the Standing Committee, namely, “Li Hongzhong, Wang Dongming, Xiao Jie, Zheng Jianbang, Ding Zhongli, Hao Mingjin, Cai Dafeng, He Wei, Wu Weihua, Tie Ning, Peng Qinghua and Zhang Qing”.
