The Syrian writer Rawaa Sonbol won first place in the Arab Authority for the Theater Award.
The announcement of the award came during a ceremony held by the Authority at its headquarters in Sharjah, UAE, on the occasion of Arab Theater Day which is celebrated on the 10th of January every year.
Sonbol said that this year’s session was held under the title “Let the imagination go beyond stereotypes”. She dedicated the award to the soul of the late Syrian poet Riyad Al-Saleh Al-Hussein, who was present in her winning text and for the female present in his poem “The Woman Who Was Dancing Tango Under a Narrow Roof” and to all working class.
It is noteworthy that Rawa’a Sonbol holds a bachelor’s degree in pharmaceutical sciences from Damascus University. She won first place in the Sharjah Prize for Creativity in 2017 and Abdul Hameed Shoman Award in Jordan 2020.
