UN welcomes resumption of Saudi-Iranian diplomatic ties

After several days of intensive negotiations hosted by China, Iran and Saudi Arabia finally clinched a deal on Friday to restore diplomatic relations and re-open embassies, seven years after ties were severed over several issues.

The United Nations, the EU and many countries have welcomed the restoration of diplomatic relations between the two neighbors.

The spokesman of the UN secretary General Stéphane Dujarric welcomed the deal, saying “good neighborly ties between the two important countries are essential for the stability of the region.

On behalf of the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Dujarric said the United Nations is ready “to further advance regional dialogue and to ensure durable peace and security” in the region.

EU welcomes resumption of Tehran-Riyadh diplomatic ties

Peter Stano, Spokesperson for the European Union foreign policy chief, for his part, said the European Union “looks forward to its implementation.

The EU acknowledges the diplomatic efforts leading to this important step, Stano underlined.

“As both Saudi Arabia and Iran are central for the security of the region, the resumption of their bilateral relations can contribute to the stabilization of the region as a whole,” the EU spokesperson added, stressing the EU’s readiness to engage with all actors in the region in a gradual and inclusive approach, and in full transparency.

Iran’s Vice-President: The agreement serves the region’s security

Iran’s Vice-President for Parliamentary Affairs Mohammad Hosseini stressed that the positive reactions of the region’s countries to the Saudi-Iranian agreement on resuming diplomatic ties indicate that this step serves regional security.

According to IRNA News Agency, Hosseini said that this deal will reflect positively on all the political, security and economic fields, pointing out that Iran’s policy is based on cooperation that serves the region’s security and stability.

The Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates Abdallah bin Zayed Al Nahyan described deal as “an important step towards stability and prosperity in the region.

Egyptian presidency: The deal consolidate security in the region

Spokesman of the Egyptian presidency Ahmad Fahmi asserted that announcing the resumption of diplomatic ties between Saudi Arabia and Iran enhances the concept of good neighborhood.

Egypt highly appreciates this important move to eliminate the tension in relations in the region, Fahmi said, pointing out that this deal will contribute to increasing cooperation and consolidating positive communication among countries of the region to serve the progress of their peoples.

Abdollahian: Tehran-Riyadh relations provide large capacities to region

Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said in a Twitter message on Friday that the resumption of relations between Tehran and Riyadh would provide great capacities for the two countries, the region, and the Muslim world.

Abdollhian said that the neighborhood policy as the key approach of the 13th government’s foreign policy is moving in the right direction with strength and that the diplomatic apparatus is active after taking more regional steps.

Following the recent visit of President Ebrahim Raisi to China, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani traveled to Beijing on Monday (March 6) to launch an intensive negotiation with the Saudi delegation to settle issues between Tehran and Riyadh.

After several days of intensive negotiations between Shamkhani and Saudi Arabia’s national security adviser Musaid Al Aiban in Beijing, an agreement was reached on Friday aimed at resuming relations between the two neighboring countries.
