World Peace Council condemns the economic measures imposed on Syria

Havana, (ST) – The Executive Secretary of the World Peace Council, Iraklis Tsafdarides, strongly condemned the unilateral Western coercive measures imposed on Syria. He stressed that these measures constitute a “flagrant violation of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.”

During his meeting with the Syrian ambassador in the Cuban capital, Havana, Dr. Idris Maya, Tsafdarides reiterated the World Peace Council’s support for Syria.

Maya stressed that the Council will exert all its effort to unmask the US and Western imperialist policies that bear responsibility for the damages hit Syria by these countries’ support for terrorist organizations and their crimes against the Syrians.

The Executive Secretary of the World Peace Council also condemned the repeated Israeli occupation’s attacks against Syria. It referred to the record of the Israeli entity in violating the Charter of the United Nations and the rules of international law.

For his part, President of the Cuban Institute for Solidarity with Peoples (ICAP), Fernando Gonzalez, renewed the support and solidarity of the Institute and all Cuban youth organizations with Syria in the face of the terrorist war it confronts.

Gonzalez indicated that the Institute has organized, during the past years, many pro-Syrian events and activities.

In turn, Syria’s ambassador to Cuba talked about the role of the US and Turkish occupations in looting and stealing Syria’s resources and wealth and their support for terrorist organizations in it. He stressed Syria’s determination to defeat terrorism wherever it is throughout the Syrian geography.

Dr. Maya thanked the World Peace Council for its stances regarding the terrorist war that Syria has been subjected to for nearly 11 years.
