DAMASCUS, (ST)- The Interior Ministry yesterday opened a workshop focusing on ways of combating crimes of human trafficking and on Syria’s efforts to combat such crimes.
Deputy Interior Minister Hassan Ma’rouf stressed that the workshop aimed at enhancing awareness about human trafficking crimes and about means to combat them.
Ma’rouf asserted that “many Syrians in refugee camps are being exposed to different forms of trafficking, particularly within the ongoing crisis in Syria. Many are being exploited through trafficking networks under different pretexts like “marriage for protection.”
He urged all concerned countries to ensure enough protection to the Syrians staying in the refugee camps, especially because these countries have signed international conventions which prevent human trafficking.
