With the start of the (Pink Month) activities, Health launches a national awareness campaign on breast cancer
With the start of October, the International Month for Awareness of Early Detection of Breast Cancer “Pink Month”, the Ministry of Health launched a national awareness campaign on breast cancer.
This national campaign coincides with the campaign implemented by the National Cancer Control Program in the Governorateof Hama, which was previously implemented in Tartous and Lattakia governorates to investigate breast, cervical and prostate cancers.
According to the Head of the Reproductive Health Department at the Ministry, Dr. Alaa I’riksosi, the awareness campaign, which also comes under the slogan “Your awareness is your strength,” will focus on awareness and health education activities in and outside health centers about breast cancer.
She indicated that the campaign targets women over the age of 20 encouraging them to undergo a clinical examination, and for those over the age of 40 to undergo mammography, and to refer high-risk women under the age of 40 to undergo ultrasound.
She pointed out that all centers that provide reproductive health services are participating in the campaign, numbering about 960 health centers in various governorates, and all of them will provide breast examination, education and awareness services.
She said that the number of health facilities where mammography devices are available is 34, distributed in all governorates, except for Idlib and Raqqa, due to the repercussions of the terrorist war on those areas.
She indicated that breast cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers among women in the world, affecting one woman in eight, and 2 million new cases are recorded annually globally.
She added that early detection in the early stages of the tumor makes treatment better, improves the prognosis and raises the cure rates to more than 90 percent.
