With the participation of the local community and volunteer teams…an afforestation campaign carried out in Damascus 

The  Environment Directorate in Damascus Governorate carried out on Sunday   an afforestation and clean-up campaign in the Armenian neighborhood in the Al-Duwayla’a area, with the aim of encouraging protection of the environment.Local community and volunteer teams participated in this activity. 

In a statement to SANA, the Director of the Environment in Damascus Governorate, Engineer Hadi Al-Sheikh Hassan Awad, said that the campaign aims to activate the role of the local community and the work of municipalities and encourage the protection of the environment, through spreading environmental awareness and holding cleanliness and afforestation campaigns.

In turn, the Assistant Director of the Environment, Maysam Hammadi, explained that the Directorate is working to increase the area of green spaces by carrying out afforestation and environmental awareness campaigns in a number of schools, public places, and parks.

The Supervisor of the Environmental Club in the Directorate, Mervat Haj Ali, explained the importance of working with the local community and intensifying tree planting in the parks and on the sides of  roads.

While the trainer at the Environmental Club for Children, Reham Ali, pointed out that their work during the coming period will focus on visiting schools periodically, with the aim of teaching children the importance of benefiting from environmental waste through recycling to obtain useful and environmentally friendly forms.
