With the participation of Syria, the start of the World School Debating Championship (WSDC)

With the participation of Syria, the World School Debating Championship (WSDC) for 2021, organized remotely by the city of Macau in China, kicked off on July 25th  for the secondary school students.

The Championship will last until the 5th  of next August, with the participation of 74 countries.

The Distinction and Creativity Agency stated in a statement that the Syrian team participating in the tournament consists of four members: “Shaza Ahmed Kuzbari, Anne Marie Nabil Al-Jarash, Amal Abdel Rahman Jallad and Aya Muhammad Saqr,”

The Agency said  that Syria’s participation in this year’s world championship is the third of its kind and comes within the commission’s project to popularize and disseminate the culture of debate in the Syrian society.

The tournament debates are held in the English language and are divided into two stages: a qualifying stage to be held between July 25 and 30, and a final stage to take place between August 1 and 5, 2021.

The debates are based on the principle of competition between two teams. Each debate consists of three speeches on an argumentative sentence focusing on a specific issue and each speaker presents a four-minute speech, then each of the two teams presents a three-minute response speech, with the support team giving the last word.
