During the conference, representatives of the journalists’ unions in Asia and the Pacific launched their new regional group “Asian Pacific Journalists Union”, which is the fourth regional group of the International Federation of Journalists after the Federation of European Journalists, the Federation of African Journalists and the Federation of Latin American and Caribbean Journalists where the head of the Syrian Journalists Union, Musa Abdel Nour, won the membership of the Executive Office of the Asia Pacific Journalists Union.
The conference, hosted by the Omani Journalists Association in Muscat, began with an introductory press conference with the participation of union leaders from around the world to discuss the impact of the Corona virus crisis on the press and newsrooms and the initiatives launched by the International Federation of Journalists and its members from unions and press associations to save jobs and lives during the past two years, followed by a meeting for the Gender Council and its elected administrative body, which was won by Raeda Waqqaf, Vice-President of the Syrian Journalists Union, in the Council’s vice-chair elections.
During the Gender Council meeting, the measures and initiatives taken by the Council in the past three years and the adoption of the Council’s policies for the coming period 2022-2025 will be discussed.
