With the participation of Syria, the opening of the World Climate Action Summit

Led by Prime Minister Hussein Arnos, the delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic participated in the work of the World Climate Action Summit, which was launched today, within the twenty-eighth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on climate change (cop 28) in Expo City Dubai.

The president of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, announced the establishment of a USD 30 billion Climate Solutions Fund globally, which is designed to bridge the climate finance gap and facilitate access to it at an affordable cost, and aims to stimulate the collection and investment of USD 250 billion by 2030.

Sheikh Bin Zayed said in his opening speech that the meeting today comes at a time when the world is facing many challenges, the most important of which is climate change and its repercussions that affect all aspects of life.

The UAE President stressed that his country has invested 100 billion dollars in financing climate action and renewable and clean energy, and is committed to investing an additional 130 billion dollars over the next seven years, and has set a national path to reach climate neutrality by 2050, and committed to reducing emissions by 40 percent by 2030.

Before the start of the summit, the UAE President and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres received world leaders, heads of government, delegations and representatives of international organizations participating in the world climate summit.

The twenty-eighth session of the conference of the parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on climate change (cop28), which will last until December 12, kicked off yesterday at Expo City Dubai.

Cop28 is an effective platform to achieve the highest climate ambitions, promote sustainable economic and social development, and provide an opportunity for all countries, sectors and segments of society to cooperate and unite efforts, especially at a time when the importance and necessity of global climate action is growing.
