Cairo, (ST) – With the participation of Syria, activities of the 44th meeting of general directors of customs in Arab countries kicked off on Wednesday. The event is organized by the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States with the aim of highlighting efforts to strengthen customs cooperation, boost intra-Arab trade, and address customs challenges for a more integrated Arab world.
Syria is represented in the meeting, which will be held in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, over two days, by the Director General of the General Customs Directorate Majed Omran.
Participants in the meeting discussed a number of topics, including following up on the implementation of decisions on customs issues made by the Arab Economic and Social Council, as well as the reports and recommendations of the Customs Procedures and Information Committee.
The meeting addresses the work of the Technical Committee for Arab Customs Cooperation and its positive impact on increasing intra-Arab trade, the amended agreement on regulating transit transport between Arab countries, and other customs issues.
The Directors General of Customs in the Arab countries had previously participated in a meeting within the framework of the World Customs Organization, during which they discussed the customs issues on the meeting’s agenda.
