With Syria’s participation, the Sixth Arab Water Conference and the Arab Ministerial Water Council kicks off in Jordan
Amman, (ST) – With Syria’s participation, the Sixth Arab Water Conference and the 16th session of the Arab Ministerial Water Council kicked off today under the slogan “Governance towards achieving sustainable development in water“, in the Dead Sea area in Jordan.
The conference, in which a Syrian delegation is participating headed by Minister of Water Resources Eng. Moataz Qattan, aims to find appropriate solutions to the water crisis in the Arab region, reduce the impact of water scarcity on food and economic security.
The conference also aims to enhance cooperation between Arab countries in water issues, and develop water harvesting techniques and non-traditional sources to compensate for the decline in water supplies and climate change in the Arab region.
During the opening session, a documentary film was shown about the conference’s work, including the priorities of joint Arab action to confront climate challenges, especially water scarcity and the need to work on providing alternative sources and managing the water sector in a way that supports sustainable development.
