Syria is participating in the International Mathematics Olympiad for the year 2023, whose competitions will start in Japan during the period between 8 and 12 July, 2023, with the participation of 672 male and female students from 112 countries around the world.
The Distinction and Creativity Agency stated in a statement that Syria is represented in these competitions by the National Mathematics Olympiad team, which includes students “Al-Laith Nasri Shahat, Abdel-Wahhab Ibrahim Ozon from Aleppo, Sariya Muhammad Zahir Ramadan, Muhammad Firas Al-Homsi, Muhammad Ali Abdullah Houriya from Damascus, and Haidar Hafez Qassem from Homs.
The Agency indicated that the tests include many complicated mathematical questions that assess the ability of the participants to compete.
It is noteworthy that it is the fifteenth Syrian participation in this Olympiad, as the first participation was in 2009. Last year, the Syrian Science Olympiad won a bronze medal in addition to five certificates of appreciation.
