Indonesia condemns Israeli attack on Rafah
Indonesia has condemned the Israeli military attack on the Palestinian city of Rafah and the forced takeover of Rafah crossing.
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed in a statement on X that any attempt to forcibly transfer or expel Palestinians, including from Rafah, was unacceptable and amounted to the ultimate crime against humanity.
The Israeli military seized the only border crossing between Egypt and southern Gaza on Tuesday morning, May 7, cutting off a vital aid route to Palestine already on the brink of famine.
Malaysia condemns Israeli attack on Rafah, calls it ‘blatant criminal acts’
Onn its part, Malaysia strongly condemned the Israeli occupation’s bombing of Rafah municipality building, urging the international community to put pressure on the Israeli entity to cease its “blatant criminal acts.”
The Malaysian Foreign Ministry issued a statement condemning Israel’s latest attacks on Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip on May 6, which killed 19 people.
“The Israeli regime is bent on pursuing genocide and a war of extermination against the besieged Palestinians. As such, Israel deserves the strongest condemnation from the international community,” said the ministry.
It added that Israeli forces’ ongoing attacks on civilians in Rafah are “unequivocally abhorrent and reprehensible, particularly as innocent children, women, and the most vulnerable are sheltering in densely populated camps.”
Algeria condemns Israel’s Military operation in Rafah
Algeria strongly denounced the Israeli occupation’s military actions in the city of Rafah in southern Gaza.
“This dangerous escalation, which threatens to cause an unprecedented criminal toll, confirms that the Israeli occupation is continuing its plans to exterminate the Palestinian people,” the Algerian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
“By its actions, the occupation disregards the international community agreement on the urgent need to expedite a cease-fire in Gaza Strip and the inevitability of launching a political process to ensure the establishment of the Palestinian state,” it added.
African Union condemns Israeli incursion into Rafah
Also, the African Union condemned the Israeli military’s moves into southern Gaza’s Rafah, calling for the international community to stop “this deadly escalation” of the war.
AU Commission chief Moussa Faki Mahamat “firmly condemns the extension of this war to the Rafah crossing”, said a statement after Israeli tanks captured the key corridor for humanitarian aid into the besieged Palestinian territory.
Faki “expresses his extreme concern at the war undertaken by Israel in Gaza which results, at every moment, in massive deaths and systematic destruction of the conditions of human life”, the statement said.
“He calls on the entire international community to effectively coordinate collective action to stop this deadly escalation.”
Russia: Israel’s offensive in Rafah leading to humanitarian disaster
On Tuesday, the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said that the Israeli occupation’s offensive in Rafah would lead to a humanitarian disaster,
Russian news agency TASS reported Bogdanov as saying that Israeli actions in Rafah result in a humanitarian disaster in the region.
“This is a humanitarian disaster, there are many civilians there now, including women, children – more than 1.5 million people have amassed in the south of the Gaza Strip, in the Rafah area,” he told journalists.
Italian President urges action to prevent expansion of Israeli military offensive in Rafah
Italian President Sergio Mattarella also urged action to prevent “the expansion of the Israeli military operation in the city of Rafah” in southern Gaza.
Mattarella said in a speech during the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday that he reiterates the call and appeal of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to “avoid the planned military operation in Rafah, especially in light of the expected catastrophic consequences for Palestinian civilians there.”
He emphasized the need to halt the massacres and atrocities in Gaza and achieve lasting peace.
The Italian leader stressed that international humanitarian law and the Fourth Geneva Convention, which protects civilian populations even in the most severe conflicts, must not be violated, and called for a focus on the pivotal role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and the continuation of funding for its activities and programs.
