WHO: Tonnes of COVID-19 health care waste pose threat to human health, environment

The World Health Organization has warned of the danger of tonnes of waste resulting from the treatment of COVID-19 pandemic, stressing that it poses a threat to people’s health and to the environment.  

A new WHO report said on Tuesday that tens of thousands of tonnes of extra medical waste from the response to the COVID-19 pandemic has put tremendous strain on health care waste management systems around the world, threatening human and environmental health and exposing a dire need to improve waste management practices.
