WHO: The extent of destruction in Gaza’s hospitals is horrific

Geneva, (ST) – Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus affirmed that the extent of the destruction inflicted on hospitals in Gaza Strip is “heartbreaking and horrific. He reiterated the demand to protect hospitals and not attack them.

Ghebreyesus said in a post on X platform on Wednesday: We conducted, in cooperation with our partners, an assessment of the condition of Al-Shifa Hospital and the Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza. The process of recovering bodies in Al-Shifa Hospital is still ongoing, health workers are cleaning the emergency department, the burned beds have also been removed, and the safety of the remaining building still needs a comprehensive engineering assessment.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, UNRWA affirmed that it found unexploded bombs weighing 450 kilograms inside its schools in Gaza Strip, after the Israeli occupation forces left the city of Khan Yunis, south of the Strip.

The United Nations announced earlier this month that cleaning Gaza Strip of unexploded ordnance and explosive devices will require millions of dollars and several years to be accomplished.
