Geneva (ST): The World Health Organization announced that it had recorded more than 2.6 million new infections with the Coronavirus in the world, which represents a new daily record.
Reuters quoted the Organization as saying in a report that the number of recorded infections with the Coronavirus around the world rose during the past 24 hours by 2618,130 cases, bringing the general outcome to 296496809 cases. The report indicated that the number of deaths caused by the virus increased by 8,168, bringing the number of victims to 5,462,631.
In a related context, the Organization warned of the danger of the mutated Omicron to the lives of many people infected with it around the world, noting that it would be wrong to describe it as “mild.”
The Director-General of the Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said in a press conference that “the record numbers of infections with the new mutation of (Covid 19) are rapidly transmitting and spreading, which means that hospitals are suffering from severe pressure.”
