Michael Ryan, Director of Global Emergency Response at the World Health Organization (WHO), announced today that only 17 out of 36 hospitals in Gaza are currently operating partially amid the ongoing Israeli aggression, according to WAFA News Agency.
In an online discussion about the health situation in Gaza, Ryan highlighted that these hospitals are struggling due to material damage, fuel shortages, limited medical supplies, and a shortage of staff.
Ryan also reported a severe impact on healthcare services, with the WHO documenting 1,098 attacks on healthcare facilities in the occupied Palestinian territories between October 7, 2023, and August 22, 2024. Of these, 492 occurred in Gaza, resulting in 747 deaths and 969 injuries.
The destruction has severely compromised Gaza’s healthcare system, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region.
