WHO expects an increase in infections and deaths due to Omicron

Geneva, (ST) – The World Health Organization (WHO) expected an increase in the number of cases and deaths caused by the Omicron mutant of the Corona virus during the coming period.

“The increase in the  cases of the mutant around the world is of deep concern .We expect an increase also in hospital admissions and even deaths,” Sputnik quoted the organization’s press service as saying in a statement on Tuesday.

Many countries lack the capacity to analyze samples from all infections or causes of death so it may be difficult to provide accurate information on deaths caused by the omicron.

The World Health Organization had previously warned of a faster spread of the Omicron mutant than its Delta counterpart, noting that vaccines against it are less effective, although its symptoms are less severe.
