WHO announces 44 deaths from Ebola virus in Uganda

Yesterday, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, announced that the Ebola epidemic has killed 44 people in Uganda since it spread last September.

“There are 60 confirmed cases and 20 probable cases of Ebola, with 44 deaths and 25 recovering,“Ghebreyesus was quoted by AFP as saying in a statement.

“We remain concerned that there may be more chains of transmission and contact with the virus than we know in the affected areas,” Ghebreyesus added.

On October 15th, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni announced the imposition of a closure in two areas in the center of the country considered the epicenter of the outbreak of the Ebola virus.
