White cement included in the import substitution program

Damascus (ST): In the context of strengthening the work of the import substitution program, rationalizing imports and encouraging industry locally, the Prime Minister, Engineer Hussein Arnous, approved the recommendation of the Economic Committee, which included supporting the proposal of the Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade to include projects for the manufacture of white cement within the program to substitute import alternatives and grant them the advantages provided within the industrial cities specified under the economic recommendation in this regard.

The approval to include white cement in the import substitution program comes due to the high value of imports of this material and the absence of a facility currently producing this material and the possibility of increased demand for the material as it is one of the basic materials that enter into the reconstruction process as it is used in a group of works.

The Ministry of Local Administration and Environment indicated that the industrial city of Adra has the necessary partitions for such industry within the large industries area and the building materials area. The industrial city of Hassia also has 8 to 10 acres within the engineering area. If the investor needs larger areas, two or more partitions can be combined to meet his request or allocate the industry outside the city’s regulatory boundaries as an “expansion zone”.
