Wheat Production is Very Good – Minister

Damascus, (ST) _ Agriculture Minister Ahmed Qadri,  said the government supports the agricultural sector and makes  great efforts to mitigate the negative effects on  peasants due to the current circumstances Syria undergoes  

Qadri added  in an interview with the Syrian TV on Saturday that  wheat crop cultivation  is  very good in terms of areas cultivated , as wheat is  important crop on which the  Government attaches great importance,  pointing that areas cultivated for the current season are estimated  at 3.1 million hectares , expected to  produce 6.3 million tons of wheat.

He continued that the government allocated   60 billion Syrian pounds SP  to buy  wheat crop from farmers as soon as possible, with a price of SP  36 per one KG of mild wheat   and SP  37 pounds per KG of durum wheat.

Qadri pointed out that the cereal establishment  pays grain transport fares if the farmer transfers  his crop to Damascus province  from the eastern provinces  in addition to an incentive bonus for each delivered Kg.

He continued that  armed terrorist groups targeted  farmers and stole  their crops and looted grain from certain and sold it to neighboring countries, stressing the important  role of the local community in helping to secure protection in unsafe areas  in order to keep crops, as a property for all citizens .

He also noted the  ministry’s  great attention to livestock under the current circumstances, adding that  terrorist groups stole  this wealth from cattle research centers and stations, and  from  agricultural centers scattered across the country and smuggled them abroad, explaining that the ministry  will  issue an integrated legislation concerning  livestock protection .
