What is happening in Hasaka is disturbing, and the use of water for political purposes is a criminal act, says Baklanov

Moscow, (ST) – The advisor to the President of the Russian Federation Council, Andrei Baklanov, affirmed that water cannot be used as a weapon to achieve political purposes because this is considered a “criminal and inhumane act,” commenting on the Turkish regime’s continued cutting off the water supply for more than a million Syrian citizens in the city of Hasaka and its vicinity for more than two weeks.

Baklanov said in a special statement to Sputnik News Agency that, “what is happening in al-Hasakah is a source of great concern for us, the situation in itself is very difficult and unacceptable and is completely inconsistent with United Nations resolutions, especially the General Assembly resolutions of 2010, which clearly stated that water cannot be used for political purposes, and this is considered an inhumane and even criminal act.

Baklanov indicated that his country will make all possible efforts to solve this issue.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned in the strongest terms, in a statement yesterday, the ongoing crime committed by the Turkish regime by cutting off drinking water for more than a million Syrian citizens in the city of Hasakah and its vicinity, stressing that cutting off water to citizens is a war crime and a crime against humanity under international humanitarian law, including the Geneva Conventions relating to the status of civilians in wartime.
