Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya has condemned the western coercive economic measures imposed on Syria, stressing that these illegal sanctions are worsening the humanitarian situation in the country.
Tass quoted Nabenzya as saying during the Security Council session on Friday that the social, economic and humanitarian situation in Syria has deteriorated due to the illegal economic restrictive measures imposed by the West in the first place.
He pointed out that these sanctions have been imposed without the permission of the Security Council and they have been maintained despite the UN Chief’s call for reducing them under the corona pandemic.
The Russian diplomat said that these coercive measures come within the framework of the western states’ attempt to target the legitimate authority in Syria through tightening the economic siege on the Syrians.
