Western Public Opinion Has Been Victim of Disinformation Campaign Concerning Situation in Syria: Italian Newspaper

ROME, (ST)- Italian newspaper “Il Fatto Quotidiano” has stressed that the public opinion in western countries has been exposed to a disinformation campaign by western governments and media concerning the situation in Syria during the past years.

In an article by journalist Giorgio Bianchi published recently, the newspaper said “the western governments and media have focused on the Russian military presence and the Iranian advisory presence in Syria- both came at a request from the legitimate Syrian government- while these governments deliberately ignored the terrorists who came to Syria from Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, France, Britain and other European countries.”

According to Bianchi, since the beginning of the crisis in Syria in 2011, videos for what was called “moves calling for alleged freedom and democracy were filmed” while the presence of the terrorist, extremist and violent organizations-which entered the country basically from Turkey- as well as the intervention of western countries, mainly the United States, in the Syrian affairs were ignored.

He said that the Syrian army was accused of suppressing demonstrators, but the fact is that the army behaved according to its duty, like all armies of the world, including the armies of western countries, do if they experience the same circumstances.

He added that the Western countries’ double standards policies have appeared clearly in the savage suppression practiced by the French government, which claims democracy and human rights, and by the French security forces against “Yellow Vests” protestors; a violent suppression that resulted in several casualties.

Bianchi also said “I visited Syria for the first time in 2016 and stayed there for more than a month. The scene was awful as all areas were filled by pictures of hundreds of martyrs, aged between 18-30 years, and many of them were slaughtered by the terrorists and many others were tortured to death.” He stressed the western media didn’t mention this, as they were busy promoting lies and allegations about the militants”.

He pointed out that the western media has intentionally ignored all forms of American and western support for the terrorists including the direct support provided to Daesh terror organization on September 17th, 2016 when the American warplanes shelled the Syrian army positions in al-Tharda mountain near Deir Ezzor Military Airport and when the city of Deir Ezzor had been under the siege of Daesh since 2013.

He noted that months after heavy clashes, the Syrian army reestablished control over al-Tharda mountain, managed to break the siege on Deir Ezzor and expelled Daesh terrorists.
