West’s wrong policies behind tension hotbeds

The wrong Western policies regarding the situation in Syria have led to the spread of terrorist organizations in the region. Neglecting Syria’s sovereignty and supporting the passage of thousands of terrorists into it have given rise to the current situation in Syria. The continuation of this situation will be in no one’s interest. The West’s selective and double standard policy on democracy, free elections and counter-terrorism are behind the continuity of hotbeds of tension in various parts of the world.

Having the crisis in Syria dragging on poses a threat to the entire humanity. Syrian people’s unity and adherence to their government in the face of the terror danger will eventually lead to the victory of the Syrian people.

The French parliamentarian delegation’s visit to Syria is an indicator of the emergence of political trends in France that fault the government on its hostile policy towards Syria. The visit, which took place last month and included meetings with President al-Bashar Assad and Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem, carried a political message saying that time has come for the West to reconsider its wrong politics on Syria. This message also encourages holding dialogue with the Syrian government and cooperating with it in the fight against terrorism.  The French figures openly stressed that this cooperation is badly needed in order for the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) to be defeated. Their visit signals that France should review its policy which has been proved a failure having brought terrorism into the heart of the French capital.

This visit could not have taken place if there was not a gap in the French position on Syria after four years of a hostile campaign Paris and other Western capitals have waged against it. This tendency for a reconsideration of the Western policies that have backed terrorism to undermine the Syrian state has been expressed by many foreign politicians, parliamentarians and journalists who are speaking out in favor of such a shift in policy.

A French poll conducted by French Television 1 (FT1) came up showing that 88 percent of the French people supported the French delegation’s visit to Syria.

 Member of the National Assembly of France Jacques Myard criticized the policy of Paris towards Syria, saying that it’s short-sighted, and that if the situation in Syria collapses then there will be chaos in the region.

Myard, who was part of the French delegation that visited Syria recently said that ending the crisis in Syria requires dialogue with the Syrian leadership, asserting that there can be no military solution for the crisis and that the only solution is a political one in which President Bashar al-Assad would be a primary partner.

In turn, French Senator Francois Zocchetto, who was also part of the delegation, said that the visit was one for gathering information, and that there is a chance to resume dialogue and restore diplomatic relations, calling for working with the Syrian leadership to combat terrorism.

Likewise, National Assembly member Gerard Bapt, another member of the delegation, said that it’s difficult to say that France wants to fight terrorism on its soil yet ignore what is happening in Syria, saying that there is no more moderate opposition in Syria.

 Former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark said that the U.S. training of groups of terrorists in Syria is a dangerous practice that aims at escalating fighting. Clark pointed out that training and arming individuals to take part in violence against another country is unacceptable and isn’t the right way to achieve world peace. He asserted that arming terrorists goes against U.S. laws, and that the U.S. is fully responsible if the weapons it provides fall into the arms of terrorists.

Clark, who visited Syria as part of a delegation of U.S. activists said that terrorism can be stopped through group efforts by affected countries according to international laws and legal accountability.
