West’s Excessive Demands an Obstacle to Reach Agreement, Says Zarif

Tehran – French ex-Prime Minister and former Foreign Minister Dominique De Villepin, who is in Tehran, conferred with Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Monday.

According to the report of Foreign Ministry Media Department, in the meeting, Zarif said that the latest round of nuclear talks has reached a sensitive phase and Iran has offered different proposals.

He underlined that now it is time for the other side to show its intention to reach an agreement.

Zarif stressed that, unfortunately, excessive demands of certain members of the Group 5+1 have created an obstacle in the way of achievement of an agreement.

Referring to bilateral relations between Iran and France, Zarif said that these ties could be expanded in different fields.

Concerning developments in Syria, Zarif underlined that the crisis in Syria has no military solution and it could be solved through political means.

De Villepin, for his part, called final agreement between Iran and Group 5+1 in nuclear issue ‘very important’, and underlined that in case of access to a final agreement, the issue will affect the whole Middle East.

He stressed that West has had mistakes on expansion of radicalism in the Middle East and now it is very worried that youths from western countries are fighting for Daesh.

Agreement without safeguarding Iran’s rights not acceptable – Zarif

Meanwhile,  Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, in the meeting with Belgium new ambassador to Tehran, said that Iran will not accept any agreement if Iran’s rights are not respected.

According to the report of Foreign Ministry Media Department on Monday evening, Zarif, after receiving a copy of credentials of Belgian new Ambassador to Tehran Francois Delhaye, expressed hope that Tehran- Brussels ties in different fields, including economic relations will be expanded.

Concerning developments in the region, Zarif said, unfortunately, certain countries have adopted wrong policies in Syria.

Belgian new ambassador, for his part, expressed hope that cooperation between the two countries in different fields can be promoted, adding that there is a great capacity for expansion of bilateral cooperation.

IAEA delegation to finalize practical steps towards agreements

On the other hand, spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Behruz Kamalvandi said talks with the IAEA delegation is to focus on the practical steps towards finalizing agreements between Iran and G5+1.

Talking to IRNA on Monday, he noted that a delegation from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is to arrive in Tehran Monday night to discuss ways of finalizing the two steps out of the five steps in the agreement between Tehran and G5+1.

He said the visit of the watchdog body’s Deputy Director for Security Tero Varjoranta serves to continue talks to get to a final decision on the last two steps in the third chapter of agreements between the two sides.

He further noted that the delegation is to start talks with the AEOI officials on Tuesday morning.

Kamalvandi expressed hope that Iran and G5+1 would reach an agreement on the need for five practical steps during their May 20 meeting.

The delegation of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) arrived in Tehran on Tuesday.

The delegation is headed by nuclear watchdog organization’s Deputy Director for Security Tero Varjoranta.

The IAEA team is visiting Iran to discuss the practical steps for finalizing the agreements between Iran and G5+1.
