Moscow, (ST) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed that the Western countries are responsible for the crises that the countries of the Middle East are experiencing, indicating that the terrorist threat to the world is a result of “the geopolitical experiences of the West” in the region.
Lavrov said in a joint press conference on Wednesday that, one of the main causes of the crisis situation in the Middle East and North Africa region is “the exacerbation of the conflict that still exists there as a result of the geopolitical experiments of the West, which tried to exploit the so-called Arab Spring to its interests.
He pointed out that, Western policies have led to the spread of terrorism in the countries of the region and undermined the economic foundations of many countries.
It is noteworthy that a number of Western countries, led by the United States, have supported over the past years and are still supporting the terrorist organizations in Syria by arming, training and financing them. Their forces have occupied Syrian lands and imposed coercive economic measures targeting the Syrian people for their livelihood.
With regard to the situation in Syria, Lavrov stressed the importance of the Astana process in reaching a political solution to the crisis in it and said that, “in Syria, with the active support of the guarantor countries of the Astana process, the United Nations has managed to establish a stable political process that will continue next month”. He referred also the importance of the coordination role of the United Nations in the political solution Crises in Syria, Yemen and Libya.
On the other hand, Lavrov considered that the search for a political solution to the Palestinian issue “faces real risks that predict failure,” describing the situation as “extremely dangerous.”
