Wensland calls for respecting the status quo of Al-Quds holy sites, stresses the illegality of the occupation’s settlement activities

New York (ST): The United Nations envoy to the Middle East Tor Wensland called for respecting the status quo of the holy sites in the occupied city of Al-Quds (Jerusalem), stressing at the same time the illegality of the Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.

During a session of the UN Security Council on the situation in the Middle East, according to what was reported by the Palestinian Wafa News Agency, Wensland referred to the continuous incursions carried out by the occupation forces into Al-Aqsa Mosque and their assault on those who are in seclusion during the blessed month of Ramadan, shooting them and forcing them out of the mosque. He pointed out that the occupation forces have prevented Palestinian Christians from reaching the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in the Old City of Al-Quds to celebrate the Holy Saturday that precedes Easter, in violation of the status quo.

Wensland explained that “Israel” recently announced plans to establish more than 1,000 settlement units to expand settlements built in and around Al-Quds, reiterating that settlement expansion in the occupied Palestinian territories in all its forms is illegal under international law, unilateral measures and provocative actions that would fuel tensions should stop.
