We have designed a strong infrastructure for digital transformation, says Minister Al-Khatib

Damascus, (ST) –  The Minister of Communications and Technology, Eng. Iyad Al-Khatibaffirmed that the ministry was able to design and build a strong infrastructure for digital transformation services in Syria in the sectors of education, health,  economy and all other vital sectors in less than three years.

“The ministry was also able to accelerate the digital transformation process by promoting innovation and reducing time and corruption at the lowest costs and resources despite the long terrorist war waged on Syria and the spread of the Corona pandemic”, Minister Al-Khatib added.

In his speech during his remote participation in the ministerial round table discussions at the World Information Forum held in Geneva, Minister Al-Khatib said that the ministry has completed the cloud computing project and completed all necessary procedures to launch the third operator, which will be ready before the end of this year and will provide fifth generation services for the first time in Syria. He added that this matter creates an enabling environment for the use of Internet of Things technologies and the processing of the big data generated as a result of digital transformation quickly and safely.

Minister Al-Khatib indicated that users’ reliance on electronic applications has increased steadily recently. He stressed that the ministry has put in place all procedures and requirements to regulate the application market in Syria in order to build a safe environment for users free of malware, viruses and electronic attacks, and has also worked to protect the privacy of users’ data for applications.

Minister Al-Khatib added that, the ministry is working to achieve comprehensive access to broadband at reasonable prices for information and knowledge for people with disabilities and the elderly to achieve digital inclusion.

“The ministry is also working to design and implement the e-government data carrier project, which is a system that secures the exchange of information between entities within an integrated standard environment to ensure information security. Which is the backbone of all electronic services and this system can combine services in their different formats in an easy, efficient and inexpensive way, Minister Al-Khatib said..
