Maputo, (ST) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called on the United States to stop interfering in the affairs of other countries.
In a press conference on Wednesday in Mozambique, Lavrov criticized the statements of the US ambassador to South Africa and his administration’s allegations regarding South Africa’s weapon supplies to Russia, and said that the US ambassador or any other ambassador needs to know his limits and not to interfere in the relation between Moscow and Pretoria.
Lavrov reaffirmed that Russia never violates international standards on the issue of arms supplies, as the West does, pointing out that the West has sent huge amounts of modern, long-range and unsafe weapons, including those used in Ukraine.
The US ambassador to Pretoria Robin Brighetti claimed in a press conference last Thursday that South Africa is supplying the Russian army with weapons and ammunition, referring to the arrival of a Russian ship to the Simonstown naval base in South Africa and its stay for two days, between the 6th and 8th of December before it returned to Russia. Brighetti has apologized for his statements and admitted that he crossed the red lines after receiving an official protest in this regard from the South African Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
