Washington’s assassination of Soleimani in violation of international law and leads to serious consequences, says Lavrov

Moscow, (ST) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed that Washington’s assassination of Lt. Gen. Qassem Soleimanithe commander of the Quds Brigade  in the Iranian Revolutionary Guards is a violation of international law that will lead to serious consequences for international peace and stability.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that “Lavrov’s confirmation came during a telephone conversation with his Pakistani counterpart, Shah Mahmoud Qureshi, as the two sides discussed the situation after the assassination of Soleimani near Baghdad and the Iranian response to it.”

The statement pointed out that “the two sides confirmed that the differences between countries must be settled through diplomatic means at the negotiating table.”
On the other hand, the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that Moscow rejects the invitation of US President Donald Trump regarding the nuclear agreement with Iran, stressing its “agreement with Tehran’s position to implement the deal.”

“There is a very well thought out and consensual agreement that must be implemented , for this reason, the Iranian side’s position is more understandable .The United States should return to implement the joint comprehensive plan of action,” a State Department source said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
The source pointed out that “it is more logical for the United States to return to the agreements that it supported and signed itself and that were subsequently ratified  by the United Nations Security Council.”
