The northern countryside of Lattakia has become the destination of young volunteers who came from all sides with the intention of supporting firefighters and the civil society in controlling and extinguishing fires, after they were documented by hundreds of photos and video clips that reflected the tragic reality of the forests that have turned into ashes.
Aktham Ismail, the leader of the “Syria Light” volunteer team, hurried with a number of team members to join the firefighters deployed in the village of Al-Kawasir, and provide assistance according to the available capabilities and in coordination with the cadres of the Directorate of Agriculture, as he explained that their mission was to monitor the sites that were put out and ensure that the fire does not spread to neighboring areas, which reduces the burdens on the cadres working on the ground.
The initiative is launched by the team, in coordination with the Forestry Department in the Lattakia Agriculture Directorate. The aim of the initiative is to secure protection for the ancient forest sites that extend over large areas by monitoring the general situation.
The young people could not bear the scenes of fire devouring the green forests, which have always been a destination for their recreational and sports activities and the afforestation campaigns. This is what Hassan Ismail, Ghaith Laila and Jaafar Qabili from the same team said, stressing the need for young people to have a high sense of responsibility towards what is happening and to move each according to his ability in coordination with the concerned authorities, to ensure the optimal investment of their energies in supporting governmental and private efforts and helping to surround the fire and limit its spread.
