Voices at the Summit of the Americas defeated Washington’s plans, says Cuban Foreign Minister

Havana, (ST) –  Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez considered that the Ninth Summit of the Americas, which was held in Los Angeles recently, constituted a victory for Cuba and the peoples of the region, and a defeat for the plans of the United States.

In an interview with Cuban television broadcast today, Rodriguez reiterated his country’s rejection of the United States’ decision to exclude Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela from the summit. He stressed that the United States “does not have logical reasons to exclude these countries, but rather exploits its status as a host country to do so.”

The Cuban Foreign Minister indicated that despite the exclusion of his country, Venezuela and Nicaragua, the voices of these countries were heard in Los Angeles during this summit through the countries that participated in it and conveyed the voice of Cuba and demanded an end to the unjust US embargo against it.

Rodriguez called for dialogue on an equal footing with respect for the sovereignty of all countries. He said that the meeting in Los Angeles is evidence of Washington’s isolation and a reflection of its bad reputation.

The Summit of the Americas was held from the sixth to the tenth of this month in Los Angeles, in light of the exclusion of Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua from attending, which was condemned by these countries and other participating countries as an “unjustified, arbitrary and undemocratic position.”
