Vienna Talks on Syria Kick off

VIENNA, (ST)- A new round of Intra-Syrian talks began today in Vienna with a meeting between the Syrian Arab Republic delegation led by Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari, and the UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura.

The Syrian Arab Republic delegation arrived today morning in the Austrian capital to take part in the talks.

 The two-day event is being held at the invitation of de Mistura within the framework of Geneva political process on Syria.

On Wednesday, de Mistura expressed optimism about the talks which, he said, are held in a “very critical era”.

Eight rounds of Intra-Syrian talks have been held in Geneva, the latest of which was held on December 14.
