TEHRAN, (ST)- Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal al-Mikdad has stressed that Syria is determined to fight the foreign-backed terrorism, pointing out that victory on terrorism in Syria is a victory for the region and the entire world.
Al-Mikdad made the remarks in Tehran during his meeting on Tuesday with Ali Akbar Velayati, the Iranian Revolution Supreme Leader’s Top Advisor for Political Affairs.
The deputy minister hailed the victories being achieved by the Syrian Arab army on terrorism thanks to the sacrifices of the army soldiers and the support of Syria’s allies: Iran, Hizbollah and Russia. He highly appreciated the strategic cooperation and alliance between Syria and Iran and thanked the Islamic republic for its firm support for the Syrian people’s steadfastness, particularly in the economic field.
He affirmed that the pressure being put by the United States and the West on Syria and Iran under different pretexts, as well as the attempts to exploit international organizations like the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapon (OPCW) to attack independent sovereign states under false pretexts, serve the American-Zionist interest.
Al-Mikdad said that US withdrawal from Iran’s nuclear deal is a stigma in the history of the American administration as it poses a threat to international peace and security, voicing Syria’s support for Iran in the face of this pressure.
Defending Syria and resistances axis means defending Iran
On his part, Velayati renewed his country’s support for Syria in its war on terrorism, affirming that defending Syria and the resistances axis means defending Iran.
The Iranian official congratulated Syria, as a leadership, government and people, on the victories achieved in the fight against terrorism, noting Iran’s determination to help Syria clean all the Syrian lands from terrorists.
The two sides agreed to hold continuous consultations and coordination in different areas to achieve the interests and aspirations of the peoples of the two countries.
