DAMASCUS, ((ST)- The General Command of the Army and Armed Forces announced on Tuesday that following successful and heroic military operations, the Syrian army in cooperation with allied and supporting forces and with the help of the Syrian and Russian air forces has completed the second phase of its mission in the depth of the Syrian desert and managed to break the siege which has been imposed by ISIS terror group on the people of the city of Deir Ezzor for more than three years.
“This great achievement is a strategic turning point in the war on terrorism and it stresses the ability and determination of the Syrian Arab army and its allies to defeat the terrorist project and foil the division schemes of terrorism sponsors and supporters,” the command said in a statement, stressing that the new gain also ensures a vital lifeline to supply the city and the defending forces with basic needs.
Breaking the siege helps expanding the military operations in the area in order to eliminate the rest positions of ISIS whose military structure has collapsed under the strikes of the Syrian army, the command added.
It pointed out that the siege was broken after the army forces advancing from the western side of Deir Ezzor met with the steadfast and valiant army personnel who defended Deir Ezzor and protected its people, stressing that the advancing forces killed and injured hundreds of ISIS terrorists and destroyed their positions and vehicles.
The command saluted the steadfastness of the people of Deir Ezzor and the army forces and renewed its pledge that the Syrian army will continue to be the fortified shield in defense of the homeland.
Concluding the statement, the command affirmed determination to press ahead with the fight against terrorism until security and stability is restored to the entire territory of the Syrian Arab republic.
