Veteran and Young Artists Showcase their Artworks in “Syria Gathers Us” exhibition at Dar al-Assad in Lattakia

Within its plan to revive cultural movement in Syria, reactivate the role of culture in society and mobilize youths’ capacities, the “Mada” cultural project in cooperation with “Al-Salamyya” cultural forum recently held an art exhibition at “Dar Al-Assad” for Culture in Lattakia showcasing 75 artworks by 55 artists from several provinces.

The three-day cultural event, entitled “Syria gathers us2″ exhibited 63 paintings and 12 sculptures.  The art pieces depicted diverse personal, national and humanitarian issues, joy, sadness, hope, and nature besides the impact of the crisis in Syria.

Diverse techniques such as acrylic, oil and pastel colors in addition to wood sculpting were used by the participants.

“This artistic and cultural event aims at expressing  the Syrian artists’ spirit of challenge and persistence to prove to the world that Syria is still able to bring together all the Syrians from different categories despite all the hostile schemes against their culture,  unity and stability”  Mr. Ramez Hussien , Head of the “Mada” project told the Syriatimes e-newspaper.

“What is remarkable about this event is that it stresses the need to provide young artists with a  chance to showcase their works alongside prominent artists to enrich their knowledge and benefit from the experience of the elder generation” he added.

Mr. Hussein made it clear that the “Mada” cultural project held “Syria gathers us1″ in 2017 in Damascus during the very difficult circumstances of the country, indicating that the “Mada” project’s slogan is “love” because love is able to gather all the Syrians.

On his part Ayman Marbat, representative of Al-Salamyya cultural forum, told Syriatimes “that art is a meaningful cultural message. He said that the Syrian fine artists have managed during the crisis to use their colors, words, brushes and ideas to defend their country against Takfiri terrorism.

The artist Rami Darwish from Homs province talked to Syriatimes about his painting which depicts the beginning of creation, saying “my painting symbolizes Syria after eight years of brutal and savage war. Syria exerts relentless efforts to revive everything again starting from stone”.

The artist Manal Sabeq from Lattakia, on her part said “I call for achieving gender equality through my painting which depicts the Syrian woman wearing a fez ( tarboush) . The fez was originally only for men because they used to consider the man as the symbol of strength”.

“Gender equality prevents violence against women and girls. It is essential for the community’s prosperity. Societies, that value women and men as equal, are safer and healthier” according to Sabeq.

She underscored that the Syrian women have been a symbol of patience, steadfastness and strength and they have played a responsible and honorable role in defending their beloved country.

It is noteworthy that Mada project carries out different activities including exhibitions, cinema shows, poetry and music evenings, tourism tours and intellectual events in the Syrian provinces of Damascus, Homs, Lattakia and Sweida.
