On October 6, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin reiterated his country’s position calling for a political solution to the crisis in Syria on the basis of adherence to its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Vershinin and the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Syria, Gerard Pedersen, stressed in a phone call the importance of achieving a permanent and stable political solution in the Syrian Arab Republic on the basis of adherence to the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in accordance with the UN Security Council resolution No. 2254.
The Russian Foreign Ministry indicated that during the call, Vershinin and Pedersen discussed holding another meeting of the Syrian Constitution Committee in Geneva to continue the Syrian-Syrian dialogue under the auspices of the United Nations.
