Moscow, (ST) – During a telephone conversation with the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Syria, Geir Pedersen, and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin discussed the current situation there.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that during the call, which took place at the initiative of the United Nations representative, views were exchanged on this situation in Syria.
Special attention to the urgent tasks of providing comprehensive humanitarian assistance to the Syrian Arab Republic was discussed in the statement.
The statement indicated that it stressed the need to work to advance the political process led and implemented by the Syrians themselves to solve the crisis in their country with the help of the United Nations and in light of the regular discussions in the UN Security Council on it.
