On September 26th, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin and the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, discussed prospects for advancing the political process to resolve the crisis in Syria.
“The two sides held deep discussions about the tasks of advancing the political process led and implemented by the Syrians with the help of the United Nations, as stipulated in UN Security Council Resolution 2254,” TASS news agency quoted the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement.
The statement added that the two sides also focused on the issues of resuming the meetings of the Syrian Constitution Committee in Geneva and the continuation of the Syrian-Syrian dialogue without any outside interference.
On January 29th, the Committee concluded its fifth round of meetings at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva.
