Vershinin and Pedersen discuss by phone the situation in Syria

Moscow (ST): Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin discussed, in a telephone conversation with the United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen, the situation in Syria and ways to solve the crisis politically through the Syrians alone.

 

The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement today, carried by TASS news agency, that the two sides exchanged, during a phone call, in detail, their views on the issue of advancing the political process of settlement in Syria, which the Syrians themselves implement with the help of the United Nations in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution No. 2254.

Resolution 2254, which was unanimously adopted by the UN Security Council in December 2015, affirms that the Syrians are the ones who determine the future of their country themselves without any external interference and that terrorist organizations are outside any political process.
