Venezuela to Affirm Support for Syrian Government, President Al Assad at Security Council Debate

NEW YORK, (ST)-Venezuelan Permanent Representative at the United Nations Rafael Ramirez has stressed his country’s support for Syria in the face of the terrorist war and its rejection to intervention in Syria’s internal affairs.

In an interview with “Sputnik News” on the sideline the of the UN General Assembly yesterday, Ramirez said  “we are going to have a debate on Wednesday at the Security Council… we are going to expose our position, first of all, supporting the legitimate government of Syria and President Bashar Al-Assad. Secondly, asking to avoid foreign intervention in the country.”

The UN Security Council will convene on Wednesday with the situation in Syria and the faltering cessation of hostilities agreement on the top of the agenda.

The 71st UN General Assembly has focused heavily on the refugee crisis, which has been exacerbated in Syria after five years of war. Ramirez commented on the issue by saying that “the best help for the Syrian refugees is to stop the war.”

He condemned the United States’ direct intervention in Syria and its violation of the cessation of hostilities with the Sunday airstrikes that hit a Syrian Army position outside the city of Deir ez-Zor and killed tens of soldiers.
