Tens of thousands of Venezuelans marked the twentieth anniversary of the failure of the coup against the late President Hugo Chavez 20 years ago, with a massive rally in Caracas.
During the rally on April 13th, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said: “Twenty years have passed since the April Revolution, since the historic defeat of the coup against our people and against President Hugo Chavez.”
President Maduro added: “ On this day twenty years ago, Venezuela gave a historical lesson to imperialism so depicting global rights.” Chavez was ousted from power for less than 48 hours after a military coup carried out by the opposition led by businessmen loyal to the United States.
On the 13th of April, a group of the army managed to free Chavez and return him to the presidency amid massive demonstrations in support of him.
