VATICAN,(ST)_ The Vatican ‘s Holy See demanded all foreign powers to stop the flow of arms to Syria and to refrain from financing the purchase of weapons for the success of the Geneva Conference 2 in order to reach a political solution to the crisis in Syria . This was expressed in conclusion of a meeting of a Vatican ‘s group of experts .
The Holy See said that in order to build the ground for a regional peace, Geneva 2 conference should ensure participation of all parties to the conflict in the region and beyond, pointing to the need for participation of Iran in particular.
However, the UN announced yesterday readiness to extend an invitation to Iran when a Russian-American consensus is achieved in this regard .
Geneva Conference 2 will be held on January 22nd in Montreux city, Switzerland , and the UN announced it had sent invitations to the countries participating in this conference .
The Pontifical Academy for Sciences , which organized this extraordinary meeting, with the participation of Catholics and non- Catholics experts at the request of Pope Francis of the Vatican said that the first step must be a cessation of violence in all its forms without political preconditions .
” The process of reconstruction should start even before finding a solution for all political and social issues” the Vatican said, expressing , determination to support all parties in Syria until reconciliation is achieved.
Meantime, informed sources said today that secret meetings have been held since two weeks in the capitals of France and Saudi Arabia, with the participation of the US , Israel, France , Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar on creating and finding excuses to obstruct the political efforts to resolve the crisis in Syria in favor of launching a brutal aggression on the Syrian people, funded by Saudi Arabia and Qatar and a US-Israeli intervention with the approach of failure that will be inflected on the conspiratorial parties.
Concerning the agreement of Iran and the group of five plus one about the Iranian nuclear file, the Holy See said that this agreement holds hope for the end of the period of acute distrust between Iran and other countries , pointing out that the success of this file will mainly furnish for lasting peace in Syria.
