Various handicrafts hosted in an exhibition for people with Downs syndrome in As-Sweida

As-Sweida, (ST)- Using various materials such as wood, beads and thread, seven people with Downs syndrome from Al-Sweida presented various handicrafts in accessories within the exhibition launched today by the “I Can” group initiative in cooperation with the Church of Jesus the King of the Capuchin Fathers.

In a statement to SANA, the initiative’s coordinator, Hayat Munzer, indicated that the exhibition is an opportunity to display the works of this category, introduce the participants, integrate them into the society, as well as expand their knowledge within the framework of the efforts made to provide them with the necessary support.

In a similar statement, the pastor of the Monastery and Church of Jesus the King of the Capuchin Fathers in Sweida, Fadi Ziadeh, said that the aim of the exhibition is to enhance human aspects and  spread the values of cooperation and love in our society, especially in these difficult circumstances that we go through.

Mansoura Al-Baset pointed out that her son Thaer’s participation in the initiative is important to support his position in society and to encourage him to participate in its various activities.

A visitor, Mona Karami, stressed the necessity of holding such exhibitions as a message to increase the moral and material interest in this category.

It is worth noting that the “I Can” group is an initiative launched by the teacher Hayat Munzer in    Al-Quraya town in 2015. The initiative targets a group of young people with Down syndrome, with the aim of integrating them into society through involving them in manufacturing and marketing of accessories within the local market.
