On the occasion of Christmas and the New Year’s Eve approaching, a series of Christmas events were held in the city of Homs last night, including tree lighting, recreational competitions, and Christmas exhibitions.
Community and youth activities in Mar Elias square in the town of Fairoza lit the Christmas tree for the fourth consecutive year, accompanied by the melodies of the Fairoza Scout Band, in the presence of the townspeople and various social and religious activities.
In a statement to SANA, the people who put up the Christmas tree pointed to the cooperation of the people and youth of Fairoza to accomplish, decorate and light the tree, which is up to 19 meters high, and reflects a state of joy and optimism that a new year brings peace and good for the Syrian people.
The lighting of the tree was accompanied by the opening of a “Miladiyat” exhibition that included handicrafts, Christmas decorations, candles, Christmas-inspired art figures and various kinds of Eid desserts and sweets.
The hall of “Our Lady of Peace” church in Bustan al-Diwan neighborhood in Old Homs hosted a Christmas exhibition that included a wide variety of exhibits, including Eid sweets, personal and Christmas accessories, handicrafts, paintings, Christmas tree decorations, Eid clothes, antiques and copper.
Ghassan Jarada, in charge of the exhibition, pointed out that the exhibition this year is distinguished with a variety of creative artworks that competed in terms of ideas, implementation, coordination and presentation.
The second day of the (Holy Nights) celebration held by Our Lady of the Annunciation Church in Al-Mahatta neighborhood also included the opening of the three-day games tournaments, in which more than 50 young men and women compete in ping pong, backgammon, and entertainment games.
